Kantaris Media Player

Kantaris is a new media player based on code from Videolan client (VLC) and Bass audio library. Kantaris has a graphical user interface similar to that of Windows Media Player. Version 0.6.4 works with Windows 2000, XP, Vista and Windows 7.

Kaffeine

Kaffeine is full featured Media Player for KDE. It supports all kinds of local and network media and digital video broadcasting (DVB). At the moment Kaffeine can use xine-lib or GStreamer as backend.

Features

• The playlist window. Here you can easily create playlists by just dragging some files or folders from the upper left file browser and drop it onto the playlist.
• You can choose to hide the file browser to get a larger visualization.
• Or hide the playlist and simply double click on a file to play it.
• Or hide all but the playlist!
• Enjoy watching DVDs with full navigation menus.
• If you have DVB devices, you will be presented the DVB configuration dialog and, a few steps later, you will just watch digital TV!
• scanning for DVB channels and choose which ones to add to your channels list.
• Feel free to watch TV in minimal mode and read program description on screen!
• When in minimal mode, a middle mouse button click on the video brings up the controls bars.

Mplayer

MPlayer is a movie player which runs on many systems (see the documentation). It plays most MPEG/VOB, AVI, Ogg/OGM, VIVO, ASF/WMA/WMV, QT/MOV/MP4, RealMedia, Matroska, NUT, NuppelVideo, FLI, YUV4MPEG, FILM, RoQ, PVA files, supported by many native, XAnim, and Win32 DLL codecs. You can watch VideoCD, SVCD, DVD, 3ivx, DivX 3/4/5, WMV and even H.264 movies.

Another great feature of MPlayer is the wide range of supported output drivers. It works with X11, Xv, DGA, OpenGL, SVGAlib, fbdev, AAlib, DirectFB, but you can use GGI, SDL (and this way all their drivers), VESA (on every VESA compatible card, even without X11!) and some low level card-specific drivers (for Matrox, 3Dfx and ATI), too! Most of them support software or hardware scaling, so you can enjoy movies in fullscreen. MPlayer supports displaying through some hardware MPEG decoder boards, such as the Siemens DVB, DXR2 and DXR3/Hollywood+.

MPlayer has an onscreen display (OSD) for status information, nice big antialiased shaded subtitles and visual feedback for keyboard controls. European/ISO 8859-1,2 (Hungarian, English, Czech, etc), Cyrillic and Korean fonts are supported along with 12 subtitle formats (MicroDVD, SubRip, OGM, SubViewer, Sami, VPlayer, RT, SSA, AQTitle, JACOsub, PJS and our own: MPsub). DVD subtitles (SPU streams, VOBsub and Closed Captions) are supported as well.

MPlayer is available under the GNU General Public License version 2. It is not available under any other licensing terms, not even for substantial amounts of money.

MPEG4IP

MPEG4IP provides an end-to-end system to explore streaming multimedia. The package includes many existing open source packages and the "glue" to integrate them together. This is a tool for streaming video and audio that is standards-oriented and free from proprietary protocols and extensions.

Provided are a live MPEG-4/H.261/MPEG-2/H.263 MP3/AAC/AMR broadcaster and file recorder, command line utilities such as an MP4 file creator and hinter, and an player that can both stream and playback from local file.

Media Player Classic Home Cinema

Media Player Classic Home Cinema is an extremely light-weight media player for Windows. It looks just like Windows Media Player v6.4, but has many additional features. You can use the player as a Media Player Classic Home Theater.

Supported Decoding:
MPEG-1, MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 playback. Media Player Classic is capable of VCD, SVCD and DVD playback, without the need to install any additional software or codecs.
